We congratulate our Year 3 boys on winning the Bedford Modern Tag Rugby Tournament last Friday! The boys played five matches, and came away with five wins – against Akeley Wood, Quinton House and Rushmoor School and two against Bedford Modern.
Well done to everyone involved on a superb start to life in prep sport.
The Under 9 Rugby team played their first match of the season against Broughton Manor Prep School in October. It was a well-contested match and the boys fought consistently hard throughout the game, to win 9-1. A very promising start to the season!
In October, Year 4 pupils visited Verulamium Museum in St Albans to support their Roman Britain topic. They learnt about everyday life during Roman times, were given a talk about the wonderful mosaics displayed in the museum and had an exciting opportunity to handle real Roman objects.
On Friday 12th October the Parents’ Association organised a ‘Fairytale’ themed Cake Sale to raise money for the school’s 2018 charity, Medical Detection Dogs. Parents made delicious cakes and biscuits to sell and pupils had fun choosing something and donating 50p to the charity. The magnificent sum of £250 was raised and thanks go to both those who made cakes and those who bought and ate them!
Jennifer Howells, Senior Community Events and Fundraiser at Milton Keynes Hospital, came to assembly today at MKPS to receive a cheque for the Children’s Ward for £5,100. The money was raised in 2017- 2018 through events organised in school and by the Parents’ Association such as the Christmas Fair, as well as various cake sales and raffles, retiring collections at school productions and refreshments at events.
Ms Howells gave a presentation to the pupils, showing them how the money might be spent, eg. to improve the wards aesthetically, to buy medical equipment and to purchase educational equipment for children who could not leave their beds.
Our photograph shows Ms Howells with 2 members of the Parents’ Association.
In September our Pre-Reception children enjoyed an exciting day at Woburn Safari Park looking at and learning about the animals and birds, in connection with their topic on The Jungle.
Our Year 2 pupils enjoyed a day at Wicksteed Park this week, investigating a range of playground equipment to find out which forces were required to make them move. They discovered that most required either a push or a pull, and that some needed both forces to be used, but at different times.
They learned that a force can move things but can also make them stop. They carried out an investigation with Science Bears and ramps to find out how the height and surface of a ramp or slide can affect the distance an object can travel. They attended a workshop where they built and investigated model playground equipment. They talked about the forces being used and the impact they had on the equipment. They then had opportunities to improve the designs to make them look more interesting and exciting.
They also learned about the history of Wicksteed Park and even got to have a ride on the famous carousel!
In September 2018, in connection with their topic on Food and Farming, Year 1 pupils enjoyed a rewarding and informative visit to Thrift Farm, in Mursley. They learned about how animals are farmed for their meat, milk, skin, or eggs and feathers. They were also able to observe animal behaviour within the groups of mammals and birds. They rounded off their visit by having fun playing in the adventure playground, including ‘driving’ a tractor.
