Class 8 at Tring Museum

Our Class 8 children had a fascinating day atThe Natural History Museum in Tring yesterday. They took part in a science workshop all about fossils and enjoyed a drawing session based on the artist Henri Rousseau.

They really enjoyed looking around the museum’s many exhibits and went on a trail to find the largest animal (an elephant seal) and the smallest (a pair of fleas!). A lovely afternoon out was enjoyed by everyone.

Johitha’s Trolley Dash

Johitha Kastala, one of our Class 11 pupils, won a trolley full of shopping in a raffle run by Morrisons at Westcroft, in aid of CLIC Sargent, the national charity supporting children and young people with cancer. Johitha was delighted with her win and had the inspired idea of donating all the items in the trolley to homeless people in Milton Keynes. Her parents and the school are justifiably proud of her fantastic idea!

Fire Brigade Visit

At the end of the autumn term, Year 1 children received a visit from the crew at Bletchley Fire Station. This was arranged to support and enrich their learning alongside the topic ‘Machines.’

In the classroom they were shown the components of the ‘kit’ the firefighters wear to keep themselves safe from danger. They were then shown around the fire engine and learned about all the tools and machines used to put out fires and to rescue people and animals. They were able to handle some of the equipment, helped by the firefighters as everything was very heavy!

MKPS Christmas Fair – December 2018

Last week the Parents’ Association held their much anticipated Christmas Fair, in aid of our nominated charity Medical Detection Dogs. Along with the regular favourites there were some new additions such as the hugely popular Slime Stall, plus Class 11 ran their own stalls for the first time this year and had great fun doing so.IMG_4994

What with Santa’s grotto, jugglers, cakes, reindeer food, Splat the Teacher and many prize-winning opportunities it was a busy, noisy, fun-filled afternoon and all in a good cause – the Parents’ Association have revealed that we raised a whopping £1800! Thanks to everyone who donated, shopped, took part or even splatted a teacher and helped us achieve such a fantastic result.

Year 6 Visit Bletchley Park

At The National Museum of Computing at Bletchley Park, Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to practise coding on the BBC Micro to create the snake game. They also used NotePad and Python the do the Turing test, a program designed to generate questions and answers – the purpose being to work out whether the responses were given by a machine or by a human.

They learnt about the evolution of technology by visiting the Colossus, the Tunny and the WITCH main frames.

They were amazed at the size and dimensions of the hard disks of the 1970s and 1980s and the amount of storage space they contained.

Well done to everyone involved on a superb start to life in prep sport.

Under 9s Rugby vs BMPS

The Under 9 Rugby team played their first match of the season against Broughton Manor Prep School in October.  It was a well-contested match and the boys fought consistently hard throughout the game, to win 9-1.  A very promising start to the season!

Charity Cake Sale

On Friday 12th October the Parents’ Association organised a ‘Fairytale’ themed Cake Sale to raise money for the school’s 2018 charity, Medical Detection Dogs. Parents made delicious cakes and biscuits to sell and pupils had fun choosing something and donating 50p to the charity. The magnificent sum of £250 was raised and thanks go to both those who made cakes and those who bought and ate them!
