Our annual Poetry Slam took place on March 22nd, with Mr Mark Niel, the Poet Laureate of Milton Keynes, hosting the event. Year 6 pupils were involved in a masterclass with him during the day and had the opportunity to write and perform their poems based on the theme ‘Heroes and Villains’.
The children voted on their favourite performances, with eight pupils chosen for the final in the afternoon, in front of the preparatory department. The quality of the poems and performances was excellent. Very well done to all finalists!
On Tuesday 20th March Year 2 visited Hamerton Zoo Park near Huntingdon. This half term Year 2 have been studying “Families” and learning about different animal families.
During the visit the children took part in a workshop called ‘Fur, Feathers and Scales’, which helped them to learn about some of the different animal groups and how to recognise them, based on their features. They met an African Pygmy Hedgehog called Harry, a Conure Parrot called Alfie and a Corn Snake called Bo, which they were allowed to hold. They saw many exciting animals including Siberian tigers, cheetahs, Canadian lynx, hooded vultures, meerkats, a variety of lemurs, gibbons, several different owls and an anteater.
It was a fantastic and informative day!
